CYC - Dinghy Section - How to join

Who Are Cardiff Yacht Club?

Cardiff Yacht Club is run by its members, for its members. We welcome all new members.

The club is organised broadly into 3 sections:

  • Dinghies
  • Cruisers
  • Fishing
What Does The Dinghy Section Do?

In the dinghy section, we race in Cardiff Bay during organised sessions on Sunday mornings throughout the year, and Wednesday evenings during British Summer Time. Informally, we sail at any other time during the week, however racing is by no means mandatory!

We also organise occasional trips away, taking our boats to other sailing areas, and occasional forays out of the Bay into the Bristol Channel. Other events include our annual regatta, a weekend of racing, trips to boat shows and other activities. See our events page for details of current events

What About Training? And Do I Need to Own a Boat?

Through Cardiff University Sailing Club, members are also offered places on RYA training courses and the University Magno, Buzz and Firefly fleet can be seen regularly out on the bay. In addition, although most members have their own boats, we have club dinghies for the section members to use.

CYC are now an acredited Training Centre! - More news to follow shortely..

How do I join?

Membership is by application. To join, you need to be proposed and seconded by existing members. No problem if you don’t know anybody yet, just come and join in a couple of our regular dinghy sailing sessions (let us know you’re coming) and we will propose and second you. After that, you will be invited to the next New Members meeting (which occur monthly) for a chat with committee members, then you’re in! Its an informal process so please get in contact.
